Axlebox is also called an axle box. The housing attaching the end of the axle to the railway bogie contained a set of long cylindrical roller bearing allowing the axle to rotate. Axle box functioned as the suspensions absorb shocks system between the axle bearings and the bogie frame. Together working with the axle box springs to permit up-and-down movement, and sliders to prevent lateral movement.
According to different bogie designs, axle boxs are widely used in the:Some freight wagon bogie such as russia bogie 18-100,22.5T axle load, European UIC Y-series bogie Y25,22.5T axle load.All Coach wagon bogie such as European UIC popular Y32 bogie, russia bogie.All locomotive 3-axle bogie, such as GE,EMD and so on.
In Most case, axle box is made by casting steel or ductile casting iron. It need to be fined machining for bearing face, and fitting together with axle bearing,cover,labyrinthing.wearing plate,and so on.
